Equestrian Camps

Camp Philosophy

Edgelea has developed an Equestrian Camp Program to give juniors an opportunity to learn classical horsemanship in a fun, safe, structured environment.

Campers are under vigilant adult supervision and barn mates are integrated as helpers into the program.  As campers progress they may become helpers at future camps, horse shows and in the Edgelea lesson program.

Our camp is dedicated to educating aspiring youths to become competent, compassionate horsemen engaging in sportsmanlike conduct at all times. Camp days conclude on a fun note with a variety of games.

                                Summer Camp Program

[We're sorry to advise you that there are no longer any available summer camp session spots for 2008.  Please check out our year-round lesson program (Lessons) or refer below on this page  to the specialized camp days that will take place this fall.]

Edgelea offers four separate Monday through Friday camp sessions as follows:

Session 1: June 2-6, 2008

  Session 2: June 9-13, 2008

    Session 3: June 16-20, 2008

    Session 4: June 23-27, 2008

Each day begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and finishes at 2:30 p.m. After camp activities are supervised  from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at $10 per hour. Please make after camp arrangements in advance.

Children 5-18 are divided into appropriate groups.  Each day consists of rotations including:

  •           Grooming and tacking skills.

  •         Riding lessons with emphasis on safety, balance and soft hands.

  •      Stable management education.

  •         Classroom lessons that include:  safety in the stable;   horse transportation; equine health care; p reparation for competition; c aring for your horse; leg wrapping and bandaging; and t ack care and fitting.

Just to name a few!!

Equestrian record-books are kept by each camper with daily entries.  Edgelea record-books often become a valuable reference tool for our future equestrians!

The Camp cost is $450.00 and an advance non-refundable deposit of $250.00 is required.  You can register and pay online or print off the form from our website and mail it to us with your payment.  Register by clicking the "Register Now!" link above.

                                             Guest Speakers

Our guest speakers have included veterinarians, farriers, equine dentists, horse show judges and other interesting professionals. Speakers give interactive presentations so campers get some up-close, hands-on experience!

  Bon Appetite!

Lunch, snacks and beverages are included in the camp cost and are provided by Just A Bit Bistro, EDGELEA's caterer.  They provide a healthy offering for the campers and the entire week's menu is posted on their website at JustABitBistro.com.  Any special dietary needs can be addressed.

Campers Will Need

Riding attire: Jodphurs/breeches and boots are preferred attire but jeans will work.  A change of clothing is suggested: shorts, sneakers and a fresh shirt. Campers often get wet from our fun water games at the end of the day so a third change of clothing may be desired for the ride home!

Hard hats will be provided but individuals are encouraged to bring their own.  We suggest the Troxel whit schooling helmet.  These may be purchased from nearby Quail Hollow Tack Shop.

Extras!

Camp Show Series:

Edgelea offers opportunities to compete and perform in the Edgelea Equestrian Camp Show Series!  Each Friday evening all registered campers (and helpers) may participate in our student shows for some fun, awards and lessons in sportsmanship. Shows include a complimentary wine and cheese reception catered by Just A Bit Bistro.  Parents get a chance to meet each other and our staff while cheering on their favorite Equestrian!

Specialized Camps:

Edgelea  also offers Specialized Camps for advanced equestrians. Camp themes have included "Future Veterinarians of America" and "The Art of Horse Showing". Field trips to veterinary hospitals and major horse shows have been very memorable and inspirational to our campers!
